HPV 28 STRAINS (19 HIGH RISK + 9 LOW RISK)

Why get tested?

HPV tests determine the presence of genetic material (DNA or RNA) of the papilloma virus (HPV). More than 100 types of HPV have been identified and some of these are considered high risk because they are associated with cervical cancer.

Genital HPV infections are the most common sexually transmitted disease. HPV types considered to be high-risk do not usually cause visible lesions, but persistent infections underlying major cervical cancer cases and are associated with other less frequent cancers.

In Italy about 3,500 new cases of cervical cancer and 1,500 deaths occur every year. Papilloma viruses 16 and 18 are associated with 70% of cervical cancers.

What the test detects

The test consists of the analysis of 19 high-risk HPV genotypes (16, 18, 26, 31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 53, 56, 58, 59, 66, 68, 69, 73, 82) and 9 low-risk HPV genotypes (6, 11, 40, 42, 43, 44, 54, 61, 70) on a cervical cell sample (traditional or liquid).

The test is therefore able to identify one or more low-risk or high-risk HPV genotypes. The identified strains are listed in the report.

How testing works

The test analyzes 19 high-risk HPV genotypes and 9 low-risk HPV genotypes on a cervical cell harvest using the Anyplex ™ ⅡHPV28 Detection CE-IVD kit, based on the real-time multiplex PCR technique.

Reporting time

Results in 7-8 working days.
