TEST FOT BREAST AND/OR OVARIAN CANCER
BRCA1 AND BRCA2 GENES
Why get tested?
This test aims to be a predictive test for breast and ovarian cancer. In the 30-50% of these cases the cause is an alteration of two main genes: BRCA1 and BRCA2.
What the test detects
Identifies variants in the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes.
What variants cause
Variants on these genes are related to an increased risk of developing breast cancer and or ovarian/falloppian tubes cancer. Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women, with an incidence of 1 every 8 women (12%) of which 5 -10% shows an hereditary predisposition.
How testing works
The test consists in a blood test, in the extraction of genomic DNA and in the analysis of the full coding sequence and related exon/intron junctions of the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes using NGS technology. The test also allows the analysis of the copy nubers variations by quantitative dosage of genomic DNA through the use of molecular probes.
Reporting time
Results in 30 working days.
Sensitivity and specificity
Analitical sensitivity, specificity and accuracy > 99%.
